Mathematics Rotations

We really enjoy rotations during Mathematics. Students work in small groups independently or with teacher support as needed. There is normally an activity on the computer which is very popular and a great way to get immediate feedback on progress with a concept. Another group is normally playing 'Numero' which is the favourite choice. All the students are improving their mental maths skills and are becoming more confident with different operations through the playing of a game. We have now had two (2) students win a Numero Challenge in the West Australian paper - congratulations to Hannah and Lucy.

Perimeter and Area

Students in Room 15 have been using their measurement skills to solve problems involving perimeter and area. We enjoyed a hands-on lesson measuring the boundaries of the school oval, basketball court and undercover area. We discovered that using a trundle wheel may not give us very accurate measurements. With regular shapes it is more accurate to use a calculation.

Students then used a formula to calculate the area of regular shapes and composite shapes by breaking them into parts.

Letter about Parliament

 Letter 1
On Thursday, 23rd June eight students have the opportunity to visit Parliament House. Students will go on a tour and enjoy a scrumptious lunchtime meal with our member of parliament, Mr Nathan Moreton. To be selected students had to write to Ms. Roberts about why they should be chosen and what they would get from the trip. They also needed to show some understanding of government. Several pieces of work were included in a short list for Ms Roberts to make the final selection. The lucky students from Room 15 were Syreeta, Steven and Audrita. Click on the student's name to read their fabulous writing.
