My School Rules

Congratulations to all students who represented our school in the competition. The finals team comprised Syrus, Farhan and Heath. The boys did a fabulous job. In a very close contest, Wattle Grove won the competition with a winning margin of 5 points.

Learning Journey

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Learning Journey. The students were proud to show their achievements and explain what learning had taken place. The mini Science experiments and Numero were very popular activities with both parents and students. We are seeing some good improvements in our mental maths skills with our regular playing of Numero in the class. Several students from the class have been chosen to represent Wattle Grove Primary School in an inter-school competition next term.

        

Cyber Safety Incursion

We recently enjoyed a presentation from Paul Litherland on cyber safety. Mr Litherland had been a policeman for over 20 years and spent the last part of his career in the field of technology crimes. He has worked with children and adults who were either victims or offenders of on-line crime. We discussed strategies to stay safe on-line. The main message was to treat the virtual world with the same caution that we would for the real world. We wouldn't give a stranger personal information in the real world and we shouldn't do that in the virtual world either.

Citizenship Portfolio

Citizenship Portfolios should be nearly finished. Over the school holidays is a great opportunity to just finalise a few pages and make sure all your information has been printed off. Don't forget colour printing needs to be done at home. Some students may need help to finish the community section of the portfolio, particularly the project about helping in the community. Winning isn't Everything

Students published their writing on 'Winning isn't Everything' recently. They were all displayed at the Learning Journey. For those unable to make the afternoon and for some parents who wanted a closer look, please enjoy the samples above.

Literacy & Numeracy Week

In Week 8, we celebrated Literacy and Numeracy Week. We enjoyed reading the story “The Deep End” all about a young girl who was learning to swim. She was worried about swimming in the deep end of the pool. In the end she jumped onto her noodle and pretended she was riding a sea horse. This was a reminder to the class that we can overcome challenges if we try. We then had a challenge to make the longest noodle using only newspaper. Congratulations to Sheldon and Hannah who won, and the rest of the class for working with your partner and having fun.

 

Sports Carnival

What a wonderful day. The students all behaved so well and showed that participation was the name of the day. It was lovely to see the sportsmanship and everyone trying to do their best. Another well organised carnival, thanks to Mr Sherlock and Mrs Oliver and all the parent and staff helpers. Congratulations to Sheldon on runner up Senior Champion Boy and Congratulations to Purple, the winning faction.

 

 

My School Rules

We have just finished the opening rounds of the ‘My School Rules’ competition. Congratulations to all nine contestants from the Year Six classes; Sheldon, Steven, Ramon, Heath, Mukesh, Shveni, Farhan, Syrus and Amro. There was some good opposition from the other schools. Wattle Grove has made it through to the finals which will take place this week.  The finals team will be Farhan, Heath and Syrus who demonstrated a good depth of knowledge and were fast on the buzzers.

Antarctic Projects

As part of an integrated project for History, Geography and Science students completed a project on Antarctica. We were guided by some interesting inquiry questions: How do animals and plants survive the harsh conditions? What factors or events have influenced Australia's connection to Antarctica? Who owns Antarctica? Is Antarctica in safe hands? Students followed a marking rubric to complete the project and then self-assessed their work. Final assessment was then given and work displayed. Lapathon

On Friday, 12th August we had our Lapathon. Congratulations to the P&C on another successful fundraising activity. It was a lovely afternoon with a break in all the recent wet weather. The students all had a great time running around the oval. Thank you to all the sponsors of the students. We are looking forward to raising money for new ipads and laptops and the students are aiming for prizes.
