Numero Competition

On Friday of Week 2 several students from Room 15 were part of the school Numero team. We had a fabulous morning working out challenges on an individual and team basis, then we played games and lastly the challenge of the scramble. Thank you to all parents for supporting the team and for the many who stayed to watch.

We had some good success with at least one team placing in each event. Next year we hope to build on our success and have a team make the finals. A very impressive effort from everyone, particularly Year Three students whose competition was often three years older.

Storm the Castle

Image result for medieval castleThe scenario: Brave knights of Wattlegrovia. The evil King Sanderson has taken over your castle. It is virtually impregnable but spies have discovered one fatal flaw! There is a small air shaft connected to a small window. One cannon ball could ignite the wildfire stored below the castle, hence destroying the reign of the brutal King.

The task: Research, design, build and test a machine that will fling a standard table tennis ball through a small window.

The outcome: Fabulous designs, much cheering by the army and lots of damage to the castle walls. The successful design was Immanuel's which entered the window and ignited much applause.

Learning Journeys

Thank you to all parents who attended the Learning Journey on Tuesday. This was a fabulous opportunity for parents to see what the students have been doing and for them to demonstrate their learning. The students were proud of the work they shared and many parents were given a quick view of how to play 'Numero'. This is a popular maths game which is helping improve our mental maths skills.

Interschool Carnival

Last week students attended the Interschool Carnival at Edney Primary School. Those students who performed well at our carnival were selected for their fabulous sporting skills. We had a fabulous day with great competition. The day was quite warm so we were very grateful for icy poles donated by the P&C on return to school. This helped us celebrate our win as Champion school.
Congratulations to Abbey and Shae Lyne who shared the result with another girl for Runner-up Senior Champion Girl.

Numero

We enjoy playing Numero in our class as part of our Numeracy program. Students have to think about multiple ways to make possible answers using four operations and fractions, decimals and percentages. We made the most of the postponed carnival to teach another class how to play the game. Thank you Mrs Court for inviting us into your classroom to work with your students. We hear they are now regularly doing challenges too.

Congratulations to Shae Lyne as runner up Senior Champion girl. Congratulations to Purple faction for their win. The students all behaved well and we saw many occasions of good sportsmanship. I would also like to thank those students who assisted Miss Carrigg and her team with the Pre-Primary/Kindy Carnival which was held on the Wednesday.

Aboriginal retell of Dreamtime Stories

As part of our work on Australian history we read Aboriginal Dreamtime stories. The students then had to retell the story in their own words and draw a picture based on the story using traditional colours and designs.

BUZ (Build Up Zone) Together Life Skills Program

We are running a new Health program this term with the assistance of our School Chaplain, Mrs Bennett. The BUZ program focuses on the development of social skills. The program will help the students build and maintain successful relationships, cooperate with each other and solve problems. We would like to thank Mrs Bennett for her work in supporting the students learning in our classroom.

Last week the students had to cooperate with each other to stand up whilst linked back to back. We like a challenge in our class. This was a very popular activity which stressed the need of working together.

Tyriq and Jack managed to stand up the quickest. Working together they stood up in under 5 seconds. They weren't as fast for the repeat performance
