During Week 4, students delivered a poetry recital. Each student recited a poem of their choice. Students focused on voice and expression, movement, action and enthusiasm. Most students recited the poem from memory. Congratulations to Koulah, Kasimira, Sharon, Luke, Rafi and Michael who represented Room 11 at the Year Level Challenge.


The winner of the Year Six Challenge was Koulah. She will now recite her poem at the Book Parade in Week 6.

STEM

As part of our Science program, students have enjoyed using the electronic invention kit called 'Makey Makey'. We have been using different materials and identifying conductors to control a program on the computer. The students have had a lot of fun with this whilst learning about electrical circuits and some coding. 





Literacy Pro Certificates

Congratulations to Shiam, Michael and Sava who have earned their Blue Certificates recently. Congratulations to Jazib for earning his Red Certificate. We are aiming for everyone in the class to have earned a certificate before the end of the year.


Merit Certificate Winners

Congratulations to Alona, Noah, Holly and Iraj, on earning a merit certificate at the last Senior Assembly, on the 8th August.


Congratulations also to Travis who earned a merit certificate for Sports at the last Senior Assembly, on the 8th August.



NAIDOC Week

 During Week 2, we celebrated NAIDOC week by participating in a variety of activities. On Monday, students attended a special assembly and sang an Aboriginal song. Two of our students, Travis and Zanetta, had the opportunity to help make a 'Bush Tucker Garden'. 




We got together with our buddy class to complete a mapping exercise with names in the Noongar language. The students love working together and learning new words. 






In class, the students have been reading Aboriginal stories and drawing storyboards to reflect the main events. We will be using these storyboards to write a narrative retell of the story in writing.




Creative Coins




The Term 2 Student Representatives completed their fundraising during NAIDOC Week. Students were asked to lay their coins in the design of a boomerang. All money raised by the Reps went towards the Year Six leavers gift.

Principal's Challenge Term 2



Congratulations to Room 11 on winning the Principal's Challenge for Term 2. A superb effort from everyone to win the challenge two times in a row. Congratulations to Holly, Shiam, Falencia and Alona, who made the top 10 of Year 6 students.

Term 3 Student Representatives

Congratulations to the students in Room 11, (Travis, Declan, Sava, Logan, Kyah and Olivia) who were appointed as Student Reps. for this term. We are looking forward to working with all the Year Sixes in this group. Students have already successfully started their jobs and met with Ms Roberts to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities and the school expectations.
Super Scientist

Congratulations to all the students for their presentations of a science experiment. The class enjoyed listening to the explanations and asked some searching questions. A special mention to Luke, Yasaman and Logan who represented Room 11 for the Year Level Challenge.






The winning presentation for the Year Six experiment was Francis, who will be demonstrating his experiment on Wednesday, at the whole school assembly.

Lesmurdie Senior High School Transition Day

On Monday, the students visited Lesmurdie Senior High School for a transition day. The students learned how to read a timetable and navigate their way around the school. We caught up with some previous students at lunch who were able to talk to students about how quickly they settled into the school. The different groups visited the Performing Arts Centre, the music rooms, the design and engineering rooms.

Constable Care

As part of our Health program, students have been investigating road safety and cyber safety. In Week 7 we watched an entertaining sketch by members of the Constable Care program. Students were reminded of the need to be wary of sharing passwords and passing on any information to people we have never met. More information on cyber safety is linked on this blog.

Parliament House visit

Congratulations to Sharon who was selected for a special trip to Parliament House in Week Seven. Sharon, along with seven other students and Mrs Grainger had a wonderful opportunity to visit the house and enjoy a wonderful lunch with Mr Price, our MLA for Forrestfield.
STEM

As part of our Science program, students had an opportunity to design and make a tower that would withstand an earthquake. We had some wonderful designs with many towers withstanding the earthquake. The tallest tower was won by Logan with his amazing structure.

Merit Certificate Winners

Congratulations to Kasimira, Logan, Falencia and Dean on earning a merit certificate at our Senior Assembly, on the 31st May.

Geometry

The students have enjoyed their unit on geometry with Miss Beard. They have been looking at the properties of shapes and then made skeleton shapes, nets for 3D objects and drawn shapes on isometric paper.













Principal's Challenge



Congratulations to Room 11 on winning the Principal's Challenge for Term 1. Our goal is to repeat this in Term 2 (this will take lots of effort from everyone). Congratulations to Holly, Shiam, Luke and Iraj who made the top 10 of Year 6 students.



Pre-Service Teacher


This term the class has welcomed Miss Beard to the classroom. She will be working in the class until the end of term.

Image result for note from the teacherMy name is Tanisha Beard and I am studying a Bachelor of Education, Primary, at the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle. I am delighted to be working with the Year Sixes in Mrs Lowther's class as an undergraduate student. I am in my second year of my course and I am really enjoying spending time here. Mrs Lowther is an amazing mentor and I am enjoying working with her and learning the ropes to become an inspiring teacher. I look forward to working with all the students and teachers.

Super Scientist Term 2

Throughout Week 5 & 6 students are required to present an experiment based on a Science concept, as part of our whole school Super Scientist Competition. This presentation should be no longer than 5 (five) minutes in length. The main purpose of the presentation is to explain the science behind what is happening, not just present an amazing experiment.  ANZAC Service



 
The ANZAC Ceremony on the last week of Term 1 was a very moving event. Congratulations to Dean whose poem was one of those selected to be read at the ceremony. It was lovely to see two members of our class who belong to Scouts and the Girl's Brigade also participating in the ceremony.

Faction Captains

Congratulations to Kyah who was voted as Vice-Captain for Blue Faction. Part of Kyah's responsibilities will be to work with the other captains from Blue Faction to allocate sports equipment and keep the sports shed tidy, as well as, lead the faction.

Summer Carnival

Congratulations to all the students who competed at the carnival at the end of Term 1. It was a pleasure to see you all competing on the day and demonstrating good sportsmanship. I really enjoyed working with the two volleyball teams on the lead-up to the carnival. It was great to see the commitment the students made in learning this game. On the carnival day, we improved our skills so much that both teams won the trophy.
