Welcome Back

Welcome back to Term Two. I  hope everyone had a relaxing holiday and is recharged for the long term ahead. We have lots of interesting activities planned for the term, including Science investigations and Super Scientists. We have started working on the history of World War 1 and 2 and the ANZAC story. Students will need to keep working on their organisation skills to ensure they manage the work and meet deadlines.

Parent Interviews

Thank you to all the parents/carers who came to discuss their student. We had some good conversations on how we can work together to best assist students to perform to the best of their ability. I am available most days after school or before school if you need to arrange a meeting to discuss any concerns. Please place a request in your child’s diary or contact the front office to organise a time.

Lexile Certificates

Congratulations Room 11 on your fabulous reading. We have increased our word count from 609,835 to 918,101.  Make sure you are reading the questions carefully, to choose the best answers, to improve our pass rate of 81%. Don't forget our aim is for everyone to get a certificate this year.

Congratulations are due to Olivia and Jake for achieving their Blue Literacy Pro Certificates.

Harmony Day

Once again the fabulous students and their Art teachers, Ms Randall and Ms Agar have made an incredible display of the student talents for Harmony Day. Year Six students attended a friendly interschool competition with Dawson Park. The students really improved their skills with volleyball, cricket and T-Ball and had a great day.

Buddy Class

In Week Seven, we worked with our buddies in Room 28. We worked together to make flags to represent the different countries the students come from. We then showed our flags at the Harmony Day parade. In Term 2, we have set up a regular reading session with students from Room 11 who will be visiting twice a week to read with their buddies.

 Drop Everything and Talk

This week we focussed on using good volume and a change of tone for emphasis when speaking. The topic was “Describe the best gift you have ever received.” Some of the responses are summarised below.

 Merit Certificate Winners

Congratulations to Neve, Tessa, Madhav and Olivia on earning a merit certificate at our Senior Assembly, on the 5th March. Congratulations to Nash who received a sports award.

 Mathematics

In Term 1, we have been looking at enlarging shapes and grid coordinates. We have been investigating Cartesian Coordinates using positive and negative integers in four quadrants. One of our activities was enlarging a picture of SONIC – this was a difficult task but we had some great success, as shown below.

 Drop Everything and Talk

A major focus for this year is, to help improve our speaking and listening skills. Students are encouraged to develop more details and use good vocabulary when conversing on a topic. This week we focussed on making good eye contact and using our body language to show our listening skills. The topic was “Describe a story or book that you have enjoyed reading or listening to more than once and what made it special.” Some of the responses are summarised below.
