Harmony Day

Once again the fabulous students and their Art teachers, Ms Randall and Ms Agar have made an incredible display of the student talents for Harmony Day.

Room 11 practised screen printing on hessian as their part of the school's bunting.

We have been working with our buddies to colour parts of a puzzle as part of our work on Harmony Day.

Buddy Class
In Week Seven, we worked with our buddies in Room 24. We have been helping our buddies draw around their hands and then cut them out as part of a health activity. We're also going to use the hands to make a friendship tree for Harmony Day. We have also set up a regular reading session with students from Room 11 visiting twice a week to read with their buddies.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Parent Information Evening in Week Three.
At the meeting I went through the school and class routines and expectations for the year. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, via the diary or by arranging an appointment. On the evening we handed out the Year Six standards for Literacy and Numeracy. For those unable to attend, a copy of the standards was sent home with your child.

Aussie Day

On Friday of Week 2, the school celebrated Australia Day by dressing up with an Australia theme. In class, we have been investigating how we celebrate our national day and how New Zealand, one of our nearest neighbours, celebrates their day. We compared and contrasted Australia Day and Waitangi Day. We found that we had a lot in common with each other but also some key differences. The class showed their information in a Venn Diagram.
The money raised at Aussie Day is being donated to the Bushfire Appeal which has had such a huge impact on our country. During week two we looked at bushfires and talked about having a bushfire plan for emergencies. We then used our work to write poems about the bushfires.

Welcome to 2020
Students have started working on their Student Representative Speeches. Last week we heard the first batch of students as they tried to persuade the Year Six staff and members from the Administration team as to why they should be chosen to represent the students of our school. The standard of speeches has been very high and the staff have truly been impressed. We look forward to working with all the Student Representatives over the year.
Welcome to Room 11's blog. I'm looking forward to working with all the students in Room 11 this year. Everyone seems to be settling in to new routines. My expectations of the class and our long-term goals were discussed for the year -
- ORGANISATION
- WORKING TOGETHER
- NOT BEING AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES
- RESPECTING ONE ANOTHER
- BEING A RESPONSIBLE ROLE-MODEL
- and importantly ALWAYS TRYING OUR BEST

On Friday morning, we announced the chosen Student Representatives for Term One, at a special assembly. When selecting Student Representatives we look for equal representation from all classes and a mix of abilities. This does mean that some students who delivered speeches may not be selected in Term One.

During Week 4, students delivered a poetry recital. Each student recited a poem of their
choice. Students focused on voice and
expression, movement, action and enthusiasm. Most students recited the poem from memory. Congratulations to Koulah, Kasimira, Sharon, Luke, Rafi and Michael who represented Room 11 at the Year Level Challenge.
The winner of the Year Six Challenge was Koulah. She will now recite her poem at
the Book Parade in Week 6.
